Kevin Vaught

Body

Kevin V. Vaught, age 65 of Aurora,  lost his battle with glioblastoma brain cancer on Friday, July 24, 2026 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Monday, July 10, 1961, in Friend, to David C. and Beverly F. Vaught. Kevin was the sixth of seven children born to David and Beverly.
On July 22, 1989, he married the love of his life, Kimberly Ann. Together, they had two children, Blake M. and Chase M., to whom he often said the best thing he ever did was being a dad to his boys.
Kevin loved trap shooting and woodworking, and he always took the road less traveled—never taking the same road twice when driving. He had an atlas that he highlighted with the roads he had already taken, making sure to take a different route home. Kevin had a keen sense of direction and was always on the lookout for a 1969–1972 pickup; he could tell you exactly where he saw them. Kevin loved Jimmy Buffett music, and you would usually see a “Fin’s Up” decal in the back window of his trucks.
Kevin also loved talking to anyone and everyone. There wasn’t a stranger who wasn’t a friend. His smile and laugh were contagious, but he still had that ornery twinkle in his eyes and loved making everyone laugh. If you knew him, you probably have a story that will always make you smile or laugh.
He absolutely loved being a dad to Blake and Chase, saying that the best thing he ever got to do was being their dad. He also loved his grandchildren, Jamie, Violet, Paige, and Adrienne. He always took selfies with them every time he got to see them.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ann; son Blake and his wife, Kyla, of Omaha; son Chase and his wife, Madalyn, of Aurora, grandchildren: James Morgan, Violet Louise, Paige Elizabeth, and Adrienne Harper, sister, Nancy Friesen, and her husband, Curt, of Henderson; brother Bradley and his wife, Kimberly, of Grand Island; brother Todd and his wife, Chris, of Aurora; brother David K. and his wife, Virginia, of Libby, Montana, parents-in-law: Don and Jody Daily of Kearney; sister-in-law, Tammy and Jim Purdum, of Thedford; brother-in-law, Dennis Daily, of Mullen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, David C.; mother, Beverly; brothers Mike and Rick; brother-in-law, Kenneth Daily; his beloved cat, Lily; grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.  The family would like to request that everyone come in their favorite Island or Hawaiian shirt.   Kevin has been cremated, so there will be no viewing; however, you may sign his guestbook Monday from 1-9 p.m. His family will greet friends and neighbors from 6-8 p.m. that same day, all at the mortuary in Henderson. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to his family for later designation. Condolences may be directed to his family at metzmortuary.com.
