It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith Kae “Judy” (Gustafson) Lott, who departed this life on July 23, 2026 at Pemberly Place in Lincoln, after a brief battle with melanoma and years of struggle with MS. Born on April, 26, 1942 in Grand Island, Judy brought warmth, grace, and to everyone she encountered.
Judy was the beloved daughter of Amy (Peterson) and Harald Gustafson who instilled in her a love of learning and a deep sense of community and strong faith. She treasured her family and her roots in Aurora. Judy is predeceased by her devoted parents, her brother-in-law Garry Gimpel and her former husband Duane Lott, with whom she shared many cherished memories.
A proud graduate of Aurora High School in 1969, Judy went on to pursue her passion of education at Kearney State College, where she attended the Teacher’s College. She began her career as an elementary school teacher at Fairmont Public Schools from 1962-1964 where she touched the lives of many young students. During her time as a teacher she met and married Duane Lott and had two children. Her nurturing spirit led her to become a dedicated stay-at-home mother where she was actively involved in numerous women’s organizations and her children’s school activities.
Judy was a pillar of her community serving as a pianist for the church choir at the Fairmont Community Church for many years and active in many women’s community groups. Her music and her commitment to her faith brought joy and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. In 1986 she moved to Norfolk and worked until her retirement in 2004 at Minnegasco, which is now Black Hills Energy.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory in her hearts, sister, Arlene (Garry) Gimpel of Aurora; son, Jim (Jamie) Lott of Grand Island; daughter, Linda Mitchell of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Lott of Grand Island, Shae (Liz) Lott of Omaha, Skyelar (Haleigh) Mitchell of Lincoln, and Sage Mitchell of Lincoln; great- grandchildren, DellaMae, Arlo, Isaac Lott (Michael’s) and Lilly Lott (Shae’s); niece, Sarah Gimpel of Lincoln, and nephew, Todd (Beth) Gimpel of Aurora, and their three girls, Trinidi (Max) Wiarda, Laighla (Ethan) Ramaekers, and Zoey, all of Aurora.
Her loving family would like to extend a special Thank You to Pemberly Place and Ascera Care for the loving care provided to Judy, with an especially heartfelt acknowledgement to Danielle and Jennifer.
An informal OPEN HOUSE-Celebration of Life will be held at Pemberly Place, 7655 Archer Place, Lincoln, on August 1, 2026 from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family invites those who wish to honor Judy’s memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice.
