Gladys Tierney, age 95, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 at Bryan/LGH West Medical Center in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Aurora United Methodist Church, 1104 A Street, Aurora. Rev. Mark Oberbeck will officiate.   Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.   Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date.   Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Gladys Pauline Tierney, the daughter of Daniel Webster and Ethel Viletto (Johnson) Ragland was born on a farm west of Elgin, on June 19, 1927 and passed away in Lincoln, on June 16, 2023, at the age of 95.
Gladys grew up on the family farm near Elgin, where she attended school.   Later on, the family moved to St. Edward where she met her future husband, Ed.
On September 29, 1946 she was united in marriage to Edward Duane Tierney at Albion. They had 11 children.   Gladys stayed at home and was in charge of running the household.   Ed’s jobs had them moving to Central City, Grand Island and finally to Aurora in 1994.   Ed passed away on August 31, 2002.   Gladys moved to Grand Island to live with her daughter in 2014.
Gladys had been a member of the Assembly of God Church in Aurora for many years before it closed. She loved her family very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son Kenneth; daughter, Sandra Warren, and grandson, Daniel Tierney.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her, 7 sons, Larry (Cathy) of Yankton, South Dakota, Tim of Lincoln, Derrick of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Leslie of Omaha, Terry (Cindy) of Waverly, Mark (Sherri) of Red Oak, Iowa, and Edwin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 2 daughters, Bonnie Jean Ainsworth of Grand Island and Sharon Gonzales of Grand Island; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
