Doug grew up on a farm near Cairo, where he learned the value of hard work and a strong faith that guided his life. He graduated from Centura High School in 1978, then attended Central Community College and Kearney State College where he earned a degree in Construction Management. He proudly dedicated over 35 years to BonnaVilla Homes, working first as a draftsman and later serving as supervisor in the engineering department.
On July 7, 1989, Doug married Loree (Leibert), and with that union he gained a beloved bonus daughter, Jessica. Their family grew again with the birth of Jennifer in 1991. Being a girl dad was his greatest joy, and he never hesitated to support his girls - from coaching their sports teams to proudly sitting though 20 years of dance recitals, always with a smile.
Doug was passionate about giving back, and he donated more that 20 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. He held a strong and steady faith in God, serving in many roles within his church community. Doug loved to sing in the choir and along with his favorite 70’s songs. He was also an enthusiastic fan of Chicago Cubs baseball, college basketball, and enjoying a Bud Light among friends. But, above all, Doug loved his family - his devotion, and gentle spirit made him the heart of their home.
Doug is survived by his wife, Loree; his daughters, Jessica Samson (Drew) and Jennifer Heiden (Alex); and his five beloved grandchidren: Leah, Micah, Aria, Creed and Briar. He is also survived by his mother, Pat Moss; a brother, Doran Moss (Dorothy); along with extended family and friends who never forgot him and supported him with prayers, visits, and phone calls in these past difficult years. We will forever cherish his memory.
Doug was preceded in death by his infant daughter born in Jesus’ arms and held forever in their hearts, as well as by his father, Bob Moss.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers who supported Doug along his journey, including Crane Gardens, Memorial Community Care, and St. Croix Hospice.
Doug’s life is beautifully reflected in the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: “ I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
