Betty Rojean Andersen was born May 2, 1934, in Aurora. She was raised on the farm of her parents, Herluff and Beulah Andersen, in Marquette, with her older brother Don. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1952 and then from Grand Island Business College.
Betty married Robert “Bob” Crawford in Kronberg in 1953. They owned their own business in Lincoln, Adel, IA, and Charles City, IA before settling down in Muscatine in 1975.
Betty and Bob were the proprietors of the bowling center, PlaMor Lanes in Muscatine, from 1975-2009. She was the bookkeeper and worked extensively on the kids’ Junior Bowling program. This included organizing coaches and the leagues while helping every Saturday morning. Betty enjoyed her bowling leagues and attended many of the women’s state and national bowling tournaments. Bob died in January of 2008. Betty sold the bowling center and retired the next year.
Her other hobbies were gardening, reading, and traveling. Besides local Sunday drives, she visited Las Vegas, Badlands National Park, Mackinac Island, Washington DC, Denmark, Germany, and Italy. She maintained lifelong contact with friends and family from her childhood in Nebraska with frequent letters, calls, and driving back for visits.
Betty is survived by all four of her children (Dan, Kathy, Scott, and Dave), many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
