Marlene Lauretta Geary was born on October 26, 1932 in Inman, to George and Velma (Turnbull) Geary. She didn’t have to travel far to school, as the South Fork Country School was on her family’s home place. After eighth grade, she attended Inman High School, graduating in 1950. Unfortunately, tragedy struck during her senior year, when her mother, Velma, passed.
Marlene’s brother, George, introduced her to Hubert Kiser, on a double date. The couple was an instant match. They were engaged in March of 1951, married on May 20, 1951, and moved to Choteau, Montana in June, where Hubert got a job as a plumber. The couple had 4 children, Patricia Ann, Susan Arlene, June Marlene, and Joseph Leslie.
The family returned to Inman in May of 1959 as her father’s health started to fail. Her father, George passed away in 1964. Marlene worked as a housekeeper for Lois Thompkins, and at the Golden Age Center in O’Neill.
Marlene loved her community of Inman. She was a member of the Inman Pioneer Club, the Inman United Methodist Women, the Inman Worker Club, and a card club humorously called, “What’s Trump”. Marlene was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a member of the Ladies of the Moose while in Montana. Marlene in her free time, enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crocheting, and helping around the ranch, especially mowing hay.
Marlene is survived by three children, Patricia Kiser of Corpus Christi, Texas, June (Gary Jensen) Kiser of Phillips, and Joseph Kiser of Inman; six grandchildren, Amber Kiser, David (Janet) Starkey, Kenneth (Cheyenne) Starkey, Gilbert (Denise) Starkey, Jacque (Michael) Murray, Kayla (Nathan) Wabs; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild; her husband’s sister, Velda Hansan of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Susan Kiser; a son-in-law, Robert Ruzicka; a daughter-in-law, Jane Kiser; four brothers, Robert (Alice) Geary, George (Charlotte) Geary, LaVerne (Dorothy) Geary, Charles (Sarah) Geary; and one sister, Marie (George) Morey.
