Weekend grass fire near Aurora highlights dry conditions

Firefighters from three departments battled a grass and timber fire southwest of Aurora for several hours Saturday and Aurora fire crews had to return to the scene on Sunday to make sure windy conditions didn't cause a flareup. Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox says the fire near the intersections of county roads 10 and M burned about five acres of grass in an open field and shelter belt, but the only structural damage was to a fence surrounding a rural home that was threatened by the flames.
Cox said he was grateful for the assistance of fire crews from Giltner and Hampton in battling the blaze.
