James Sweeney, age 70, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at his home. 
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 3 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Rev. Penny Schulz will officiate. Interment will be in the Farmers Valley Cemetery east of Stockham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  It was James’s wish that all memorials be donated through an account at Pinnacle Bank to be used for special projects for Farmers Valley Cemetery. His sister Kathy Moderow and another appointee will oversee this account. James spent countless hours over the years making sure the cemetery looked beautiful at all times. James Sweeney, the son of Lyle and Audrey Jeanette (Reed) Sweeney, was born in York, on January 31, 1955 and passed away at his home in Aurora, on November 26, 2025 at the age of 70.
James grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1974.  Following his graduation he began working at Missouri Valley, Bonnavilla and Champion Homes for many years.   James was united in marriage to Becky Sundberg and two sons and a daughter were born to this union, Simon and Ridge and Mandy. 
James enjoyed helping others, spending time taking care of Farmers Valley Cemetery. James always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, he enjoyed working on vehicles, and his John Deere. He spent his time outside when not at the Cemetery when it was warm out, when it started getting cold out he would enjoy being inside watching Heartland or Despite Housewives. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his brother Terry Cranston. 
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Simon and Ridge Sweeney, daughter Mandy and significant other Miguel; daughter-in-law Echo and significant other Austin, sister Kathy Moderow of Waverly; Shauna Stout of Kansas, brother Jeff Sweeney of Lincoln, Shad Sweeney of Oklahoma, eight grandkids Harley, Dakota, Kinley, Alexis, JJ, Devon, Sebastian and Malachi, two great-grandchildren Grayson and Milo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
