Two candidates announce intent to serve at City Hall

A former Aurora city councilman and a previous Hamilton County sheriff have both announced their intentions to run for city office in 2026. Aurora native and former member of the city council, Harlan Schafer announced this week that he plans to file in January to run for mayor of Aurora in the November 2026 election. At the same time, Kirk Handrup, who served for 30 years as county sheriff, said he plans to throw his hat in the ring as a candidate for councilman in Ward 2.
