Betty Cemper
Betty Jane Cemper, age 95, of Aurora, formerly of Columbus, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1420 9th Street, Aurora. Rev. Mark Seiker will officiate. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shelby. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Betty Jane Cemper, the daughter of Rudolph J. and Ina (Moses) Mangelsen was born on a farm near Palmer, on June 27, 1929 and passed away at Aurora, on October 7, 2024 at the age of 95.
Betty attended rural elementary schools in Merrick County and Colfax County, Schuyler High School and graduated from Osceola High School in 1946. She attended UNL and received her Teachers Certificate and taught schools in one room country school houses in Polk and Butler Counties.
Betty married Robert R. Sigler, Jr. on June 18, 1950. They had four children: Richard, Dianne, Russell and Rosemary.
Betty married Bernard F. Cemper on March 5, 1972. They lived on an acreage east of Columbus and both worked at Becton Dickinson. Bernard passed away on October 21, 1989. Betty worked for 20 years at Becton Dickinson retiring in January 1992. In June of 2011 she moved to East Park Villa in Aurora.
Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Extension Club, Becton Dickinson Retiree Association. She enjoyed teaching piano lessons, Sunday and Bible School, playing the accordion and being a den mother for Cub Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; daughter, Dianne Kay Sigler; brothers, Russell Mangelsen, in infancy, Victor L. Mangelsen and Edwin Mangelsen.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Richard D. (Sharon) Sigler of Hewitt, TX, Russell A. (Cathy) Sigler of Aurora, Rosemary A. (Jeff) Engel of San Antonio, TX; two step-daughters, Dee (Dave) Humlicek of Columbus, and Kathy (John) Bergandahl of Hewitt, TX; grandchildren, Richard D. (JoAnne) Sigler, Jr., Cory D. (Stephanie) Sigler, Shannon D. Sigler, Michelle (Isaac) Cepek, Anthony R. (Haley) Sigler, Jami Engel, Cody Engel, Joseph Engel, Heather Humlicek, Sarah Humlicek and Matt Humlicek; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Diane Mangelsen of Ainsworth and other family members and friends.
