Georgie Ann Collins, 81, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton with Pastor Murry Johnston officiating. To honor Georgie’s wishes, cremation will take place after the service and inurnment will be at a later date at Fullerton Cemetery in Fullerton. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 13 at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Georgie was born December 29, 1940 to Preston and Lucy (Nichols) Bishop Sr. at Belgrade. She graduated from Belgrade High School in 1958. Right out of high school, she was a waitress at a café in Fullerton, where she met Richard Lyle Collins. They were united in marriage on August 22, 1959 at the courthouse in Fullerton, where they made their home for a few years. In 1970, they moved to a farm in Marquette. They adopted a son, Richard Lyn, in July of 1974. She worked at Armour Packing Company in Central City for a few years before working at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. She also worked at BonnaVilla Homes for many years in Aurora before retiring. They moved to Phillips in 2005 and recently moved to Elyria in 2020.
She loved gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband, reading, and looking through cookbooks. She was an amazing cook and always made sure her family was fed. She loved supporting her grandchildren in everything they did and enjoyed watching their games.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Elyria; son, Richard Lyn (Karen) Collins of Elyria; three grandchildren, Justin Welton, Chelsey Welton, and Lauren Collins; one great-grandchild, Tysen Welton; sisters, Rose Greger of St. Edward, Ruby Bridger of Belgrade, and Sheryl Hruska of Tucson, AZ; and brothers, Preston Bishop Jr. of Killeen, TX and Fred (Rita) Bishop of Nebraska City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Goldie Weller and Fairy Welch; brother, Jess Bishop; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph ‘Tuff’ Bridger, Dutch Greger, Anna Bishop, and Nels Weller.
