Karen Lynn (Cassel) Carlson, 70, died Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln.  Funeral services will be Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Lucas and Rev. Jim Garfield officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Karen was born on February 4, 1951 to Johnie “Jack” and Mabel Arlene (Nelson) Cassel in St. Paul.  She grew up and attended school in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She then attended high school in Central City and North Platte, graduating in 1969.    Karen married Barry Carlson on December 19 1969.  They lived in Wayne, Ogallala, Columbus, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa before moving to Central City where they built their dream home.  Karen loved her faith, family, home, nature, animals, and working in her yard.  She spent many hours reading and studying the Bible.
Karen was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and attended Bible study every week.
She is survived by her husband, Barry of Central City; son, Brad (Tammy) Carlson of Central City; daughter, Mindi (Carlson) Sawyers of Central City; son, Tyler (Mandy) Carlson of Omaha; seven grandchildren, Mitchell (Madeline) Carlson, Connor and MaKenna Carlson, Lindsey and Josie Sawyers, Laney and Colton Carlson, three sisters, Judy Weaver of Norfolk; Linda (Tom) Schlueter of Arkansas, and Anita (Scott) Long of Madison; and her cat, Miss Kitty.
