Giltner's Dakon Wilson battles through contact in the Hornets' 52-14 loss to Heartland Friday

A tough opening weekend of the high school football season for several area teams.

Aurora had its troubles on the road at Class A's North Platte while Giltner and Hampton each dropped home contests. High Plains led late, but lost a heartbreaker on the road at Lawrence-Nelson.

Some games also had some delays, too, with the Giltner and HPC games each going into a lightning delay in the second half.

Listed are all area teams and the scores of those games with the winning team in bold:

Aurora @ North Platte, 42-14

Giltner vs Heartland, 52-14

Hampton vs Sterling, 61-6

High Plains @ Lawrence-Nelson, 58-57
