William (Bill) Larson, 90, of Spokane, Wash., passed away July 1, 2020 in Spokane, Wash.

A graveside service will be held July 23, at 10 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Colo.

Bill was born in Aurora, on June 22, 1930 to Lars William Larson and Mabel Englund. He was married to Arlene Miller on June 30, 1956 in Lincoln. Arlene passed away in 2011.

Bill graduated from Aurora High School and went on to study at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in education and geography. Bill was drafted into the Army in 1955 and served as a missile technician.

Bill taught history and social studies at Arvada High School and Pomona High School in Colorado. He was known as an insightful and astute teacher, and he enjoyed his colleagues and students. Bill also earned master’s degrees in teaching and in school counseling. Before and after retirement, Bill and Arlene traveled the world to enjoy the history, culture, and people of different countries, including Russia, China and most Europe and the U.S.

Survivors include: son James (Cora) Larson of the Netherlands, daughter Joann (Mike) Matiska of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
