Donald Campbell, 92, of Aurora, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 30 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday at Pleasant View Bible Church. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Donald Ray Campbell, the son of George and Helen (Huenefeld) Campbell was born on May 25, 1933, at the family homestead southwest of Aurora and passed away on May 23, 2026, at Aurora at the age of 92.
Donald grew up southwest of Aurora. He began school in 1st grade – 8th grade at STAR Country School, then attended Aurora High School graduating in 1950. Donald farmed with his father until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953-1955. Other than Korea, his whole life he was a farmer southwest of Aurora. He had a very inventive mind like his father, and invented the “Gate Mate” and “Mug Lug.” He also could repair or build anything that was needed or wanted. Don had a very tender heart of helping others with their needs. He’s always had a passion for flying, being the pilot of his own private plane and sharing that love with his son.
Don married Naomi Mae Eigsti on Sept. 3, 1955. They made their home southwest of Aurora. They had two children, Michael and Brenda. They were married for 70 years before Naomi passed away on Dec. 3, 2025.
Church was of high importance to Don, and he shared his faith and prayed for many. He served in many various roles within the churches as deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader, soloist and was a talented guitarist. His pride and joy became his grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending all of their various activities.
Don was a member of American Legion Post #42, the Corn Growers Association, AOPA amongst many other throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Helen Campbell; wife, Naomi Campbell; brother, Laverne Campbell; sister, Georgene Powell and brothers-in-law, Darrell Herman, Harold Powell, Sr and Gerald Eigsti.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Campbell of Aurora; daughter, Brenda (Bill) Root of Grand Island; sister, Arlene Herman of Hastings; brother, Al (Marcie) Campbell of Marquette; grandchildren, Brigette (Zach) Pettepier of LaVista, Broderic Root of Grand Island, Braedon (Nicole) Root of Lincoln, Brennon (MacKenzi) Root of Lincoln and great-grandchildren, Tayson, Torryn, Callon, Carlyn Pettepier and Henry, Niclynn Root and many other extended family and friends.
The family of Don would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Memorial Community Care and East Park Villa for their outstanding compassion and care.
Don dearly loved each employee who became his second family. It is truly a treasure for the Aurora Community to be blessed by these servants of love.
