Voter turnout high locally for General Election

Predictions of high voter turnout for last Tuesday’s General Election in Hamilton County turned out to be accurate, as 81 percent of registered voters voted either by mail, drop off or at the polls. In all, 5,641 ballots were cast in the county out of a total of 6,963 registered voters.

Construction work at the Aurora ethanol plant continues to boost local building permits, with an October project adding $1.3 million to the growing total.KAAPA Partners Aurora filed the permit last month for a corn oil separation facility on Harvest Drive.

Aurora High School senior Sofija Marjanovic has been pleasantly surprised during her time in Nebraska after arriving from Vienna, Austria.Living in a capital city of 2.2 million people, going abroad wasn’t on the exchange student’s mind until she found an organization offering an exchange program.

Caleb Arnett, accused in the December 2023 stabbing death of his step father, Ross Nicholas, remains in the custody of Lincoln Regional Center (LRC) following a status hearing in Aurora last week.
Four Giltner veterans were honored with Quilts of Valor during Giltner Public Schools’ Veterans Day program. The quilts were presented by the Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild, the Grand Island Quilt of Valor group. Veterans who received their quilt of valor includes, front from left: Allen Miller, Brian Miller, Kevin Miller, Kenneth Paul Colburn. The veterans were drapped with their quilts by Allen’s wife Kay, Janie Murphy, Darci Higgins Williamson and Kenneth’s wife Ann respectively during the ceremony.

During the celebration of Veterans Day at Giltner Public Schools, students and staff honored four veterans who were each presented a Quilt of Valor  Monday afternoon.
