Field fire near Marquette

Marquette and Aurora firefighters battled wind and dry conditions Tuesday afternoon in putting out a field fire just east and north of Marquette. Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox reported that the fire was apparently ignited by a pickup in the field and quickly spread to the north.

Jones takes the helm as PPRI’s new director

Long-time employee Amy Jones has been named executive director of the Prairie Plains Resource Institute, stepping into her new role Oct. 4. “The board is very excited to have Amy Jones take on the executive director role for PPRI,” said board president Brad Bangs.

Bids awarded on housing project

The Aurora City Council awarded bids last week on infrastructure improvements in the Streeter 3rd and 4th subdivisions, a significant step forward in an effort to address the community’s housing shortage with a planned 60-lot housing project.

Scooters Coffee to locate in Aurora

The busy Highway 34 location that for years housed the Hamilton Manor is about to get its first commercial tenant as three brothers with Aurora ties have announced plans to build a Scooter’s Coffee franchise on the site.

Giltner FBLA helps feed the farmers

As harvest rolls along, members of the Giltner FBLA team have rallied for the third year to show their support to area farmers. On Oct. 12, members served meals from the Giltner CPI building to share their thanks.

Rotary Club’s hazardous waste collection day a success

It was a feel-good day at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds Saturday as volunteers combined to collect an estimated 24,000 pounds of hazardous waste, computer components and paper ready for shredding at the Aurora Rotary Club’s Hazardous Waste Collection Day.
