Rebuilding the Edgerton raptor program

Body

Tommy White of Alton’s Keep Wildbird Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Suffolk, Va. talks to one of two raptors he brought to the Edgerton Explorit Center this week to rebuild the raptor program after the recent fire. The bird is a barred owl that White rescued after it was hit by a car. The other raptor is a red-shouldered hawk that was also rescued. After a period of training by the Edgerton’s raptor specialist, Deb Miller, the birds will join the bald eagle Aquilla in teaching the public about raptors. Watch next week’s edition of ANR for an article detailing the plans for rebuilding the raptor enclosure that was burned in the February fire that killed two of the birds in the program. Readers will also get to know White, the man some call the bird whisperer.
