Memorial Day weekend is upon us and commemorative events are planned throughout the weekend locally, culminating on Monday.
In several places throughout Hamilton County, Memorial Day services are being planned by American Legion Lester S. Harter Post 42 of Aurora. Beginning on Saturday at 7:30 a.m., flags will be raised at the Aurora Cemetery and the community is invited to participate.
On Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. the color guard will meet at the Hamilton County Senior Center to prepare to go to the Mamre Cemetery for a Memorial Day program starting at 8:30. Following that service they will travel to the Kronborg Cemetery for a program which starts at 9 a.m.
The service at the Veterans Memorial at the Aurora Cemetery is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the Community Band playing patriotic songs as a prelude.
American Legion Post 42 Adjutant Alan Anderson will give the welcome, followed by the advancement of colors by Boy Scout Troop 28 and scoutmasters.
The special speaker for the event will be American Legion member Aaron Nilsen.
Mike Powell, Ron Elge and Alan Vetter will read the roll call of the deceased, followed by a salute to the deceased by the rifle squad.
Following that service a program is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at the Stockham Cemetery, followed by a program at the Farmer’s Valley Cemetery at 12:15 p.m.
In Hampton, Memorial Day Services are planned for the Hampton Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with lunch being served after the service by the Hampton Legion Auxiliary at the Fire Barn.

At 5 p.m. on Memorial Day the flags will be retired at the Aurora Cemetery. Once again the community is invited to participate, however, the time may change if the flags are wet due to weather.
