Hawks speech team takes 3rd at Ardys Dunsmoor
Hampton High School hosted the annual Ardys Dunsmoor Memorial Speech Meet on Saturday and took third in the team sweepstakes for the event. A total of nine schools participated in the meet which was the first of the season for Hampton and Giltner.
Other awards for Hampton included third place in Humorous Prose for Brayden Wolinski and Lofton Ferguson taking third in Informative Speaking and fourth in Persuasive Speaking.
Seward took first place winning them the honor of taking home “The Rock” from this year’s meet.
Hampton speech coach Katelyn Goertzen explained that the traveling trophy for the meet is an actual rock which was established as symbol of the meet started in memory of former Hampton educator and speech/drama coach Ardys Dunsmoore.
“While she was teaching and coaching, she often talked about how our job as educators is to help students out from the rock under which they live. Therefore, our trophy for the meet is a traveling rock. The school that wins gets to display the rock and then bring it back next year!” she said.
The next meet for the Hawks will be Friday in Osceola.
