The Aurora City Council voted last week to move forward with a grant application process to help revitalize the downtown area.
Lori Ferguson, community consultant for the South Central Economic Development District, addressed the council at its April 12 meeting on why the resolution was vital and how her organization would contribute to the process of applying for grants.
“The resolution brings to the attention of the governing body that, with full agreement and support, you know about and you are supporting this effort to make this application this fall,” Ferguson said.
Senior grant consultant at JEO Terry Meier gave more insight on why the grant and survey process for revitalizing downtown is happening now. The city council met one of three criteria in normal years, eliminating slum and blight, but that was not one of the accepted criteria in 2021.
