Republican candidate for governor Jim Pillen made a campaign stop in Aurora last week sharing an optimistic outlook for Nebraska while also explaining what he believes is a critical need to elect someone who fully understands agriculture.

Tying all of the symbolism of Veterans Day and the program at Aurora High School together, five area veterans were presented with their very own Quilt of Valor courtesy of the Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild and the Hamilton Community Foundation.

Bennington topples Aurora

No. 2 Aurora brought the fight to top-seeded Bennington, but the Badgers were too much in a 42-14 win Monday night in the Class B final at Memorial Stadium in front of a crowd nearly 5,000 strong. Aurora finishes as Class B’s runner up for the second season in a row.

Poco Creek clubhouse goes up in smoke

Oh, if those walls could talk! Decades of memories went up in smoke Sunday morning as the Poco Creek Golf Course clubhouse, which for decades served as home base for the Aurora Country Club and local VFW chapter, was destroyed in a control burn by members of the Aurora Fire Department.

Pete Ricketts congratulated Aurora community leaders Friday for demonstrating the leadership and cooperation necessary to take advantage of the state’s Rural Workforce Housing Fund to launch a 64-lot housing development. Behind Ricketts is a large aerial photo of the Streeter Subdivision, where infrastructure work has already begun.

Back to the finals In order to make a return trip to the Class B finals, the Husky football team depended on a pair of huge plays from basketball players as first-year seniors.  Preston Ramaekers and Tate Nachtigal didn’t play a year ago, but were huge factors in Aurora extending its season.

Hock reunites with lifesavers

Everything changed for Rick Hock on an otherwise normal early summer day.  Hock was out shopping in Grand Island for his daughter’s upcoming wedding when he suffered a massive heart attack June 28, experiencing an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Aurora honors area veterans Thursday

The Aurora Public Schools Veterans Day program was called to order bright and early Thursday morning with words from American Legion member Ron Paider.  “On behalf of American Legion Post 42 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4993, I call to order this Veterans Day program,” Paider began.
