Fire burns harvested fields near Clay County line

A stubble fire near the border of Hamilton and Clay Counties on Wednesday afternoon burned a large number of acres of corn stubble. Fire crews from several communities including Aurora and Harvard responded and quickly doused the flames with the help of farmers pulling disks.

Having grown up in a family of hunting enthusiasts, shooting his first dear was a very big deal for Jackston Griess of Aurora. Being chosen as the winner of the News-Register’s first-ever Super Shot Contest was just icing on the cake.
Signs went up in front of Penner Athletic Courts on Highway 34 last week, signifying a pending change in ownership. The PAC was built by the Penner Family, making its debut in October of 2010 with a large Spikefest tournament.
