A chill can be felt in the air alongside the bleats of a goat herd. Absent from their numbers are the nanny goats that are ready to kid. They have taken to the warmth and safety of High Plains Community School’s new birthing barn.
FFA sponsor and ag teacher Tom Hofmann explained that the school has been working on converting a building behind the school from a storage area to a place where they can safely deliver and care for the newest arrivals.
“While the process is still not finished it is finished enough to get what we need right now,” he reported. “I’ve got enough of the tin to where we were able to put out little pens in there so we have our kidding pens done. We are working on the horse stall right now and that’s going to be a 12 by 12 frame.”
