Aurora’s heavyweight champ

Each time out felt like another Rocky sequel. The expectation was always for the pride of Philadelphia to win. Not to mention a brutal slugfest that goes the distance.  That’s exactly what Jack Allen’s senior wrestling season was like, ending with a crowning achievement.

Smiling through it all

Girls wrestling is still fresh in Nebraska, but you wouldn’t know it looking around Saturday at the A-1 district meet in Fremont.  Both Aurora and High Plains were there competing for spots at next week’s state wrestling championships in Omaha and emotions were through the roof.

‘We love Baylor!’

Spirits were high walking out of the CHI Health Center late Saturday afternoon.  Former Husky Baylor Scheierman helped carry the Bluejays to a tough 73-67 home win over a stingy, ranked Providence team and did so with the typical flair and passion No.

Local rivalries dominate top 10 games from ‘22

Well, that was fun.  Looking back at all the miles logged during the 2022 year, the one thing that stands out the most is the short road trips. In other words, the local rivalries really delivered this year, and that’s reflected well in our top 10 game recap.

A new Christmas wish list

For years, Santa Dave Bradley has kept close eye on the area’s naughty and nice list, handing out the best of the best and the sometimes not-so-great.  However, he’s decided to hang up his big red bag and fill out a recliner given to himself after years on the nice list.

Just win, baby

The big boss and I spent the final few moments of Friday’s Husker game huddled around the office’s small TV, hoping for a reversal of fortune from the last half decade.  Nebraska pulled out a 14-13 win at Rutgers on a Friday night in an anything but easy scenario.
