It took awhile, but the final moment was sweet for High Plains.

The Lady Storm held on to defeat Central Valley in five sets, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 15-13 to win the D1-6 subdistrict final Tuesday night. The win advances High Plains to a district final matchup Saturday with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

High Plains took leads of 7-4 and 14-8 in the fifth set before Central Valley fought off five match points, making it a 14-13 game. Brianna Wilshusen put the final touches on the match with a kill, extending HPC's season.

The Storm's opponent and location for Saturday's district final is to be determined.
