Area wrestlers earned three medals during Saturday morning's medal rounds at the state wrestling championships in Omaha.

Aurora's Logan Svoboda and HPC's Gage Friesen each earned bronze medals in their respective brackets while HPC's Hudson Urkoski added a fifth place effort.

Svoboda earned two wins over Central Conference opponents Saturday morning, getting a second period pinfall over Northwest's Kaleb Keiper before a 4-1 decision win over Lakeview's Jack Glendy. With a third place finish, Svoboda is Aurora's highest finishing freshman in school history and ends his first high school wrestling season with a 43-12 record.

Friesen bounced back nicely after a tough semifinal loss Friday night with two wins Saturday to end his junior campaign third. Friesen held on for a 4-3 decision win over North Central's Gavin Prewitt before a third period takedown to defeat Walker Ott of Wisner-Pilger for third. Friesen is now a two-time medalist and finished his junior year with a 50-13 record.

Urkoski dropped his opening match Saturday to Treu Atkins of SEM, running out of time in a 9-7 decision. The Storm junior bounced back to get a pinfall win over Gavin Patterson of Wilcox-Hildreth for fifth. Urkoski ends his junior season with a 41-13 record.

The area has two other wrestlers vying for state championships later Saturday afternoon as HPC's Lance Russell and Wyatt Urkoski go for gold. Russell takes on Palmer's Uriel Guzman at 126 while Urkoski battles Chase Gracey of Mullen at 175.

HPC currently sits fourth in the Class D team race with 77 points, just three behind second place Shelby-Rising City.
