A solid start to the Central Conference tournament was offset by a few bumps in the road.
The Huskies won its opening round matchup to make the semifinals, but lost matches to York and Schuyler to finish fourth in a weekend tournament played in Aurora.
While Aurora coach Madison Farris was happy to play the entire tournament from Streeter Park, he was hoping to finish a bit better after Thursday’s solid start.
“We did not reach our goal of competing in the championship game, but we gained valuable experience that our program has yet to achieve -- qualifying for the final four Saturday,” the coach said. “While we’re not satisfied with the moral victory of the qualification, we learned a lot about ourselves on Saturday, and are excited to come out a stronger team when it matters most.”
The Huskies began the tournament by holding onto a late lead and beating Holdrege, 2-1.
