Huskies double up Waverly at home
Both the Aurora boys and girls basketball teams gutted out home wins against Waverly Friday night.
The Lady Huskies needed an overtime session to defeat Waverly 56-52 while the boys team pulled the upset over Class B No. 4 Vikings, 41-33.
In the girls game, Aurora led by six in the fourth before the Vikings finished strong with a 3 and late bucket to tie the game at 47.
Waverly even had a chance to win it, but couldn't score.
In the extra session, Waverly began with a 3 before Delaney Nachtigal and Lexi Jones gave Aurora a 51-50 lead with 1:50 left.
From there, Cassidy Knust and Eva Fahrnbruch made free throws to seal the deal as Knust led the team with 22 points.
As for the boys game, Aurora played one of its best defensive games, leading 22-7 at the half.
Waverly came storming back with 20 third quarter points and even had it to a one possession game at 35-33 with three minutes left.
Tate Nachtigal hit a huge 3 and the Huskies dealt Waverly its third loss on the season as Nachtigal finished with 16 points.
