Hampton hosting ranked Pawnee City

Body

Hampton's first big test of the 2025 season comes Friday night.

The Hawks (2-0) are set to host ranked Pawnee City (2-0) in a test for both sides that could go a long way to determining playoff positioning at the end of the regular season. The Indians have wins this season over Meridian (28-22) and Dorchester (41-6) and is ranked fourth by the Nebpreps coaches poll and fifth in the Omaha World-Herald rankings. Pawnee City was a perfect 8-0 last season, but were ineligible for the postseason.

A year ago, the Hawks lost at Pawnee City 59-6 and is looking for a reversal of fortune. Hampton's two wins this season include a 43-14 game over Parkview Christian before blanking Harvard last week, 89-0. Hampton has snuck into some statewide rankings, including No. 10 by the Lincoln Journal-Star and No. 9 by Huskerland Prep.

While neither team has played a top-tier opponent to date, Pawnee City averages 250 yards per game on the ground to Hampton's 189. Both teams are around the 100 yards passing per game mark.

The Hawks feature a two-back lineup with Landen Rojewski and Mason Wiens combining for 264 rushing yards and eight touchdowns (four apiece).

Pawnee City's top rusher is Payton Rose, who has collected 244 yards and two touchdowns so far.

Other area Friday night games include:

Aurora vs Scotus

Giltner vs Deshler

High Plains vs Nebraska Lutheran
