Hampton’s first playoff appearance in more than a decade didn’t play out as anyone wearing purple and gold would have wanted. 
Yet, the vibe leaving the field Friday night in Red Cloud was one of positivity and hopefulness for the future. 
The No. 13 Hawks couldn’t score in the first half of a 60-14 loss at No. 4 Red Cloud Friday night as Hampton ends its season with a 5-4 record. 
Hampton coach Jereme Jones explained after the game that a lack of playoff experience was just one of several factors playing against the Hawks Friday night. 
“This was a case where it’s the first time these guys have been in the playoffs,” Jones started. “You have to get some confidence and belief built that they’re good enough. We came out and played like we weren’t good enough to be in the playoffs.”
