Matthew Frederick Weedin of Lincoln passed away Dec. 24, 2020 at the young age of 38.
Visitation will 9-9 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln and funeral service will Thursday at 10 a.m. at Butherus, Maser & Love Chapel in Lincoln, NE.
Matt was born on Nov. 25, 1982 in Aurora to Paula Lea Weedin Utley and Steven G. Utley. His mother tragically passed away when he was 6 months old. Matt’s grandfather Harlan “Bud” Weedin and step-grandmother Joann “Mom” Weedin took on the task of raising and adopting him. However, a few years down the road Matt again lost his parents, Harlan and Joann, while still a young boy. His favorite sister, Kathy Schroeder, then stepped up to the plate to ensure that the rest of his upbringing be with people who already loved him deeply.
Matt received his first communion and reconciliation and was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School in 2001 and then from Peru State College with his degree in Business Finance.
Matt had impeccable work ethic. He always went above and beyond in his work and poured everything he had into it. Whether it was O’Reilly Auto Parts, PSP, Rods Power Sports or Frontier Harley Davidson, he excelled at any job he was given. His natural tendency to become a connoisseur of anything that interested him made him immerse himself in every job and hobby he ever had. He would live and breathe and learn the job, products, or hobbies he had an interest in. This natural knack for research and learning made him an expert on whichever job or hobby he had his sights set on.
He turned his love of vehicles and motorcycles into his life’s career, and he was damn good at it. Matt played hard too; with those same toys he built a living around. He loved golf, the shooting range, his extensive shoe collection, and being with family and friends. His infectious smile, fun-loving spirit and playful goofiness made him a fast friend to anyone he met and a joy to be around. Matt had a generous heart, he enjoyed giving to friends, family, and strangers alike, it was a normal occurrence to see Matt giving people he had only just met, clothes, shoes, money, or help in some other way.
He married Jodi Werts on Sept. 23, 2006 and later divorced. Together they had one child.
His greatest accomplishment in life was his daughter, Gianna Amzi Weedin, born on Nov. 7, 2015. She stole his heart instantly and from the minute he laid eyes on her she was his biggest joy in this world. Gigi was the most important thing in his life, his love for her could move mountains and start fires.
Matt met the second most important person in his life, his wife Sara Chaloupka Weedin and together they shared in many of his beloved hobbies and quickly formed a deep and lasting bond. They were wed March 24, 2020 on the back deck of their new house.
Matt is proceeded in death by his biological mother Paula Weedin Utley, parents: grandfather Harlan “Bud” Weedin and Joann “Mom” Weedin, grandmother Letabelle Weedin, sister Kathryn Schroeder, two special great aunts: Alice Matson and Ruth “Toodie”Gage, and one great uncle Bob Vetter.
