Janet Roberts, age 79, of Aurora, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 1 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora.  Rev. Michell Reed will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  The family requests casual attire to the service.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Janet Joyce Roberts, the daughter of Willard ‘Tink’ and Isabelle ‘Izzy’ (Bitner) Lorenzen was born at home on July 23, 1942 at Wood River, and passed away in Aurora, on November 26, 2021, at the age of 79.
Janet grew up in Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School Class of 1959 at the age of 16.  She worked most of her life.  Janet’s first job was at the G.I. Music Store.
Janet married Rodney Gene Roberts on July 4, 1962 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River.  They had two children, Kelly and Scott.  From 1963-67, Janet worked at 1st National Bank in G.I. in the bookkeeping dept., at Fonner Park from 1969-70.  She raised her children and worked on the farm until in the 1980’s she went to work for Lippincott until they closed.  Janet’s last job was at the Good Will from the 1990’s into the 2000’s working at as a transcriptionist.
Janet loved music.  She could play the organ, piano and accordion.  As a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora, she was very involved in the music program and enjoyed her job as organist for the church.  Janet liked to travel. She had visited all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and most of the Caribbean Islands.  Janet enjoyed needle art, be it cross-stitch, quilting, crocheting, tatting or knitting.   She liked working on projects on her computer and taking photographs.  She was very devoted to her children’s activities when they were growing up and later on in life she loved visits from her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant granddaughter and grandson, Gennavive and Reyley Roberts; two nephews, SSG Daniel Bader and Kevin Roberts.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Rod Roberts of Aurora; two children, Kelly Roberts of Omaha and Scott Roberts of Grand Island; two grandsons, Griffyn and Phoenix Roberts of David City.  She is also survived by her sister, Lona Bader of Colorado Springs, CO; three nephews; a niece and other relatives and friends.
