Galen Miller, age 89, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 at Westfield Quality Care.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Rev. Mark Seiker will officiate.   Inurnment will be at the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.  The service will be livestreamed through Zoom Meeting ID 6297345912, Passcode Mill2023. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Galen Lee Miller, the son of Carl and Emma (Travelute) Miller, was born in Marysville, Kan., on Oct. 3, 1934 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on Dec. 28, 2023, at the age of 89.
He grew up and went to school in Marysville, Kan.
Galen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1953, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Galen then worked as a police officer in Marysville for 10 months.  
Galen married Ski Hartig on Oct. 13, 1956 at Marysville, Kan. He started working as a lineman for Consumers Public Power in Geneva in 1957.   During his tenure Galen worked in Geneva, seven years in Aurora, five years in Sterling, 10 years in Bassett, three years in Rushville, and six years in Loup City where he retired after 33 years serving as district manager for NPPD. They returned to Aurora in 1994, where they have since resided. They were married for 67 years.
Galen loved to camp, served on the local volunteer fire departments in Geneva, Aurora, Loup City, Bassett and Sterling. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Randall and daughter, Lisa Bowker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ski of Aurora; two sons, Michael Miller of Grand Island and Christopher Miller of New Delhi, India; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
