Elda Peters

Elda E. Peters, age 92 of Henderson, passed away at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora, on January 2, 2024. 
Elda was born on April 13, 1931 in rural Hamilton County to John C. Quiring and Lena (Penner) Quiring.  She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at the Bethesda Church in Henderson, and later became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson. Elda attended school in Hamilton County.  As a child, chickens were her pets and she loved spending time with her dad – doing whatever he was doing around the farm.
 On February 28, 1951 she was united in marriage to Marvin Peters at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson.  To this union, four children were born: Linda, Mike, Kevin Joe, and Treva.
 Marvin and Elda lived at various places in Hamilton County, where she worked at numerous businesses over the years: a waitress at Harp’s Café in Hampton, on the production floor at Flodman Irrigation in Henderson, an auction assistant for Dean Buller Auction, but mainly working together side by side with Marv farming and raising cattle. She was involved in every aspect of the farming business, and she would often ride along with Marv when he was trucking out of state. She also loved working in the church: teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir and the ladies’ chorus, decorating the church, and especially helping in the kitchen for all the meals that were prepared for funerals, weddings, conferences, and special occasions. You name it, Elda was there working behind the scenes organizing, cooking, and working with other women. She loved being involved.
Elda loved her church family and lived her faith in Jesus Christ with countless good works.  She was generous to others, always supporting with kind words, providing hospitality, taking meals to those in need, and faithfully serving in the church.
 Elda was truly talented at decorating her home – both inside and out. Marv often said that when he would get home from a long day at work, Elda had moved furniture or entire walls while he was gone. 
Elda’s favorite time of year was Christmas and she loved to decorate – wrapping gifts with ornaments, decorating every room in the house with Christmas décor, inviting guests to their home and having the table beautifully set.  She was a great hostess.
Elda always looked for ways to make Christmas memories with her children and one year even went with them through the snowy pasture to cut down a cedar tree to place inside the home.  Only later did we discover that the little pasture cedar was too large to fit inside the house. 
Elda had the gift of hospitality and she loved having people over for meals – or coffee. The coffee pot was always on and you were always welcomed. She had a green thumb for making plants and flowers grow.
 Most of all, Elda loved her family and found many ways to have fun with her children. The farm was always an exciting place to grow up with all the horses, cows, goats, chickens, and motorcycles.  She could find ways to make even the hardest farm jobs fun - like hauling pipe and stacking hay bales.  And she was so proud of all her grandchildren and would introduce them to friends when they went out for coffee. In later years, Marv and Elda also enjoyed visiting their grown children and grandchildren that lived out of the area.
 She is survived by her children: Mike (Ruth) Peters of Hampton, Kevin Joe (Robin) Peters of Los Angeles, CA, Treva (Inderjit) Uppal of North Platte, and son-in-law Allen Regier of Omaha, seven grandchildren: Andrew Regier of Kansas City, MO, Jeff (Jessica) Regier of Lincoln, Kelli Peters of Aurora, Jessica (Ian) Kinnett of Milford, Jesse Uppal of North Platte, Samantha Uppal of Ft. Collins, CO, and Eliza Peters of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren: Holly and Elijah Kinnett of Milford, Tyler Regier of Kansas City, MO, and Blake and Brooklyn Regier of Lincoln.  She is also survived by her sister, Sophie Buller of Henderson, and many nieces and nephews.
 Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Marvin, daughter Linda Regier, sister Thelma Veleba, and brothers: Herman Quiring, and Louis Quiring.
 The family would like to thank the staff at Westfield Quality Care for their love and compassionate care of her for many years – and also the staff at Traditions Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Living Hope Cemetery at Henderson, followed by memorial services at 10:30 a.m., at Living Hope Church, Henderson, with the Reverend Luke Haidle officiating. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., on Friday with the family greeting friends from 7-8:30, all at Metz Mortuary in Henderson. Memorials may be directed to Living Hope Church in Henderson.
