Friday night roundup week 5
For the fifth straight season, the Hammer stays in Aurora.
The Huskies scored two touchdowns in less than a minute of game time in the second half to flip the script and ultimately pick up a 34-21 win over Grand Island Northwest to highlight week five action of the high school football season.
Down 21-13, Aurora scored on offense before a pick-six from Canon Allen to turn the tables in the third quarter, all of a sudden leading 28-21. The Huskies added an insurance score in the fourth on a Ryan Staehr TD reception from Wyatt Pollet, moving Aurora's season record to 2-3 with a date against Adams Central next week.
Things weren't as fortunate for a beat up High Plains team, taking a 46-8 loss on the road at BDS. HPC is set for its Homecoming game next Friday against Giltner.
Speaking of the Hornets, Giltner picked up its first win of the season Friday in wild fashion, defeating Nebraska Lutheran on the road, 70-68. Brody Rudy scored the game-winning TD with 50 seconds left and the Hornet defense held firm in the red zone to win it on the final play.
Hampton did not play after Grand Island Lutheran forfeited its entire varsity season. The 4-0 Hawks will be at home next Friday against Shelton.
Listed are all area teams and the scores of those games with the winning team in bold:
Aurora @ GINW, 34-21
High Plains @ BDS, 46-8
Giltner @ Nebraska Lutheran, 70-68
Hampton @ Grand Island Lutheran, 1-0
