A request to reduce bond for the woman charged in the death of an infant in Marquette in August, has been denied by Judge Lynelle Homolka. Tiffany Cure, 20, of Marquette appeared in court on Sept. 3 with her attorney to request that her bond, which is currently set at 10 percent of $750,000, be reduced.
Following the denial of the request by the judge, Cure waived her right to a preliminary hearing in county court, so the felony case was automatically bound over to district court.
Cure was providing child care to 3-month-old Stormi Swartz on Aug. 6 when the child was reported to 911 as unresponsive. Swartz was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Cure was arrested by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 22 on charges of child abuse resulting in death, a Class 1B felony.
If convicted of the charge, Cure faces a minimum penalty of 20 years in prison and the maximum penalty for the crime is life in prison.
