Board discusses village’s web, social media presence
Most of the discussions at the September meeting of the Phillips Board of Trustees last Tuesday had to do with decisions to be finalized at the October meeting.
Among the items discussed were new sidewalks and sprinklers for the village’s George Jensen Memorial Park. Chairman Jim Crawford said the funding was available for both projects and bids had been received. He said contracts would probably be awarded at next month’s meeting.
It was also reported that street signs for the village’s new subdivision had been delivered and that new stop signs and street signs had also arrived to replace ones that were damaged or faded around town. Since a resolution is needed to adopt a plan for putting up the signs in the subdivision, it was also decided to put that on the October agenda.
Crawford also passed out an updated list of blighted properties in town that had been addressed in recent meetings. He said six of the properties had made “big improvements” since the last meeting and noted that village attorney Kent Rauert sent letters to two of the largest properties advising them to clean the lot or face legal repercussions.
Under new business, the board discussed upgrading the village’s web page. Village resident Russ Anderson, who administers the PhillipsNE.com website, was present and said he was willing to donate the site to the village and run it. Also discussed was the possibility of setting up a Facebook page for the village. Part of the discussion revolved around the usefulness of a website or community page for putting out village announcements in a timely manner. Board members said they would contact officials in the villages of Giltner and Hampton to see how they were handling their web and social media presence and would bring the matter back up for discussion next month.
In preparation for a community street dance sponsored by the Phillips Community Foundation on Saturday, Sept. 21, the board also approved a special designated liquor license for Winchesters for the event.
Representatives of the foundation presented a check to the Phillips Fire Department in the amount of $500.
