Board sets rules for record access, publication of dues

Presented with two competing offers for physical therapy services at no cost to the district, the Hampton School Board has decided to stick with Memorial Health of Aurora, which has provided the service to the school for the past several years. The decision was made at the July meeting of the board of education held on Monday, July 8.
At the June meeting an offer from Henderson Healthcare for the same service had been presented. High School Principal and Athletic Director Carson Klute said at the time Henderson Healthcare had contacted the district two years ago offering to provide the service to Hampton Public Schools, and this year offered a one-year contract also at no cost. While the offers were discussed at that meeting. The matter was tabled until the next meeting.
After the July meeting Herzberg said, “Brad Bangs will be the therapist who will be serving our students. This is our current set-up and we will just be continuing that.”
Also at the July meeting the board gave final approval to a new school policy (1113.00) which sets guidelines for public access to school records and also Policy 8550.00 which states that membership dues and other fees paid by the district to various organizations must be posted on the district’s website.
Finally, the board approved the student/parent, teacher, classified staff and early childhood handbooks, and moved to add a new handbook for extra-curricular activities. Klute was one of the driving forces in the development of the new handbook which sets standards of expectations and discipline that will be in place for all activities ranging from football to one-act play participation. Look for an article detailing the process of developing the handbook in next week’s ANR.
