Accidents prompt 3 railroad crossings
County commissioners learned Monday that Burlington Northern Railroad and the Nebraska Department of Roads are making plans to install three new railroad crossings in Hamilton County within the next year, based on reports of recent accidents at those locations.
Jeremy Brandt, the county’s highway superintendent, reported during Monday’s weekly meeting that BN Railroad and NDOT officials informed him within the past month of plans to build new automated signals based on accidents reported during the past two years. The three sites include the N Road crossing on the west side of the Aurora ethanol plant; the H Road crossing north of Highway 34; and the E Road crossing near Phillips.

Theater opens door for Willey to pursue dream
The road to picking a unique major is one that not everyone gets to follow, but for Aurora High School alumnus Bryan Willey, it’s a different story.
Currently Willey is pursuing a musical theater degree from the Sight and Sound Conservatory in Lancaster, Penn. The school combines the art of performing with the commitment of discipleship to the church.
“I felt led to come to the conservatory because it kind of bridged the gap between my love for musical theater and my love for the Lord,” he said. “I think that’s what really did it for me.”

Allen bests Isele for conference title
While the result was the same, how Jack Allen got there was different than the first two times.
The Aurora senior and heavyweight defeated Northwest’s Victor Isele for a third time with this one having the Central Conference heavyweight crown on the line Saturday in Seward. Allen bested Isele with a 1-0 decision in the final match of the afternoon as the lone gold medalist for the Huskies.
Aurora coach Derek Keasling noted how much fun the Allen-Isele rivalry has become over the last two seasons, adding that it’s far from over.

Aurora’s Beed wins conference
Aubrie Beed put it all together at Saturday’s Central Conference meet in Seward.
The Aurora sophomore rolled to a first place finish at the event, highlighting eight medalists for the Lady Huskies in the final event before districts.
Aurora girls coach Sheri Thompson explained that Beed has come along way in just a few months of wrestling and the results are really showing on the mat as the matches get bigger.

Jones following road less traveled
Choosing a college major is something that most seniors in high school and even non-traditional students might find stressful. But what if their dream educational path was a road less traveled?
Julia Jones, a 2018 Hampton graduate, has been working hard at her craft since graduation. She’ll complete her bachelor’s degree in life science from Wayne State College in May and is looking to add a bachelor of mortuary science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in December.

Mother, son share crafting bond at local vendor show
Parent and child can craft joy and learning when bonding over the same hobby, imparting skills early to the next generation.
Rilee Jemison has joined his mother, Mindy, in the last year with crafting bracelets, chains and patterns, selling them for a dollar during the 2022 Giltner Santa’s Memories.
“Rilee has always been quite the crafty little boy,” Mindy said, to which her 8-year-old son laughed and agreed. “He’s always been interested in doing what I’m doing.”
Mindy had been teaching herself the crafting arts online for more than 10 years and has her own business called Handmade by Min.
