County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement Monday with the Hamilton County Ag Society, setting in motion plans to build a new Extension office at the fairgrounds.
The concept of moving the Extension office and staff from the courthouse to its own facility at the fairgrounds has been talked about for years, with the pieces finally falling in place to gain support from all parties involved.
“In most counties the Extension agency is typically at or near the fairgrounds,” explained Jeremy Brandt, who addressed the county board Monday as a representative of the Hamilton County Ag Society. “This discussion came up four years ago and then it kind of faded away, but once we got a full-time county attorney they needed space for him. So that’s why it made sense to look at this again, moving them out there, and then that would give office space in the courthouse for the county attorney and his staff.”
