Hamilton County residents have given $290 and hundreds of coats for the Oglala Lakota (Sioux) tribe at the Pine Ridge Reservation located at the border of Nebraska and South Dakota over New Years’ weekend, according to coat drive organizer and nonprofit president Jon Ruybalid.
“There are big needs up there,” Ruybalid said. “And (it’s) just awesome the way people in Hamilton and York county just showed their true selves and responded.”
Pine Ridge Reservation had a winter storm that left behind up to 12 feet of snow, blocking road access, which required National Guard assistance, according to the Rapid City Journal and ABC news.
