Berthelsen on ‘whirlwind’ start of new massage spa
Madison (Madi) Berthelsen seeks to re-energize clients with her new business Revitalize Spa, located within The Leadership Center.
Having worked in the field for six years, she stated that she was excited to share her expertise to the sore bodies of Hamilton County.
“I really enjoy relieving pain, helping people to feel better when they walk out the door,” Berthelsen said. “I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with people and getting to the root of the problem.”
After high school graduation, Berthelsen went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year before deciding that massage therapy was the right choice for her.
“I love to get massages,” she voiced. “And so after a year at UNL, and not being able to decide what I wanted to do, I decided to try massage therapy school, knowing that it was something I was interested in, but not being sure that it was what I wanted to do forever. I ended up loving it, and I’m so glad I went ahead and enrolled.”
She worked for a local massage spa after her graduation in 2016, developing her skill set and clientele.
“I have a clientele pretty well built up,” Berthelsen reported. “It gives me the opportunity to take on groups that come to visit The Leadership Center without having to bring my table out here. It’s wonderful being able to...build off of my built clientele.”
When The Leadership Center had a room available to use, Berthelsen knew she had to jump at the chance.
“For a long time, I’ve thought about what it would be like to have my own (business) and when the opportunity became available to come to The Leadership Center and move into a room out here, it was too good to pass up,” she remembered.
Maile Ilac Boeder, TLC’s executive director, stated that she felt lucky to have someone who has worked with the staff so closely before.
“I’m excited to have her on property,” she stated. “She has worked with us on a couple of different events where she has...come on and worked on property with her guests. I think it’s going to be a great addition, not just having her in the building, because I love her, but it’s going to be a great addition and resource for my guests. Honestly, I’m just excited that she decided to come here and not go somewhere else.”
Berthelsen’s new business offers services like deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, facials, facial waxing and pre-natal massage, for which she enjoyed personal experience in the benefits when she had her child.
“It’s great for just general aches and pains, but also relaxing,” she claimed. “It can help you kind of just relax, sleep better, loosen up muscles and (address those) causes and problems.”
Another service Berthelsen now offers is one-on-one, restorative yoga classes at Tri-Fit in Aurora to maintain fitness and flexibility outside of massage sessions.
“I’m looking forward to and hoping to start offering one-on-one yoga, whether it be you need help loosening your lower back, your hamstrings or a shoulder to help you find the stretches you need to (do),” Berthelsen explained.
It has been an action-packed few weeks with the launch of her new business and joining the Tri-Fit team, according to Berthelsen, but she concluded by stating she was ready for the challenge.
“It’s been a whirlwind -- very fast paced -- but it’s exciting,” she ended.
