An author in Aurora is sharing her story in a book called “Back From Broken: A Journey of Healing from Victim to Victor” and offering hope and advice for those who may be trapped by their shame over sexual abuse inflicted on them.
JoAnn Marie is opening up her journey from victim to victor from a Christian perspective, noting how faith helped her overcome abuse and trauma in her life.
“Without my personal faith in Christ, I would not have survived what I went through,” she said. “I attempted suicide three times in my life ... and I just believe, all three times, God sent somebody to intervene. So I wasn’t successful. And eventually, I asked for help and I got good help. But I’ve been in counseling my entire life. The abuse was a big piece of it, and then later traumas in life kind of kept me circling back to it. It’s my faith walk and my confidence in it, that I wanted people to read in the book, and be able to have an opportunity for themselves to look into the Christian worldview and see if it’s something they want to choose for themselves.”
