High Plains can’t keep pace with Central Valley attack
Storm set for Homecoming week against East Butler
A young High Plains team learned a lot of lessons in its first home contest Friday night.
The Storm held pace for a moment, but not enough went right for High Plains in a 50-26 loss to Central Valley in Clarks.
High Plains coach Greg Wood explained after the game this is a young team that has learned a lot over the first two weeks and despite an 0-2 start, is encouraged by some of those items.
“We just have to be able to play consistent,” Wood noted. “The big thing is we would have three big defensive plays and then they would bust one open. Offensively, we would move the ball and shoot ourselves in the foot. We have to do the right things all the time.”
Central Valley made quick work on its first drive, picking up a 4th and short in its own territory before scoring three minutes into the game.
HPC looked to be held in check early, but scored a wild touchdown on a special teams play.
The Storm went to a spread punt formation as Gavin Morris turned a potentially horrific play into a touchdown.
