The Friday night lights are back and the area put on one heck of a show to kick off the 2022 football season.

The ANR's area teams went a combined 3-1 on opening night with Aurora, Giltner and Hampton all getting wins to start the year 1-0.

Aurora, Class C1's No. 1 team more than looked the part in its home opener, bringing the hammer to Grand Island Northwest in its rivalry showdown with the Huskies picking up a 43-13 win. Carlos Collazo scored four times, three on the ground while showing off his arm on another with a pass to Koby Nachtigal.

Giltner brought the juice on opening night, picking up a 38-6 win at Deshler for first-year coach Dane McConnell's first victory. The Hornets led 14-6 at the break before forcing several turnovers in the second half on its way to the victory, a team that won just once in 2021.

As for Hampton, the Hawks were in a thriller, downing Lewiston 58-56 on the road for Jereme Jones' first win as the head Hawk. Lewiston charged back in the fourth quarter but the Hawks held on for the victory.
