Corn.
Corn and the color red were the first things South Korean exchange student Yoonsang Nam noticed when he traveled from Seoul to Grand Island last fall.
This 16-year-old student has joined Maile Ilac-Boeder and John Boeder for the 2021-22 school year in Aurora.
“This is my first time (in America),” he said. “I came here in July last year and it was really hot. I’m going back in June.”
Nam knew he wanted to experience the different educational systems and to see the size of the United States. Though he selected the country he didn’t know exactly where he would end up.
Landing in Nebraska provided him with similar weather to his hometown though through his host family he was able to experience other states like Wisconsin, Minnesota and Colorado.
“We went Tough Mudder running in Denver,” he shared. “It was really hard because we did it during the summer and it was really hot.”
