Aurora’s season wasn’t totally hanging in the balance in the B-6 subdistrict final Feb. 23. But the Huskies sure played like it.
The Huskies finished the game on a 16-3 run, defeating Crete 56-43 at York to win the B-6 subdistrict and advance to the district finals.
It was another opponent, the second in as many days after beating Seward the night before, where Aurora got the best of a team that already beat them earlier in the season.
Aurora coach Kevin Asher has seen a change in his team in the last few weeks, with the urgency rising and overall efficiency getting better.
“The attitude of the kids has changed,” the coach said. “We have some seniors that are realizing that they hopefully have four left and they understand they have to bring the urgency.”
The Huskies tried to push the pace early and make Crete uncomfortable, leading to some transition buckets and getting to the line.
“Right away, I thought our tempo was perfect,” Asher pointed out. “It always grinds out as the game goes on, but our tempo early on was good because it was how we got out to a lead, catching them in transition.”
