Bisbee finishes top 10 at GINW

What was touted as a pre-season warm up race proved anything but Friday in Grand Island as the Aurora boys faced tough competition and even tougher running conditions.
The GINW Invite, now renamed after longtime Viking coach Vince Zavala, was moved this year from a route near the school to a 4K track that included two trips up and down the infamous Tornado Hill.
Combined with the late August heat and humidity, the race put young and even the most experienced runners to the test.
“I tell you what that Tornado Hill was brutal,” noted coach Tony Sigler. “The reality of the whole thing is that not only was it tough conditions to run in, but that’s a hard hill to train for. On top of all that we ran in the heat all week so our bodies were a little bit tired, then you hit that hill twice in a race and it was tough. The mentally tough kids really shine through and it’s fun to see who is willing to step up and compete. Overall, I was really happy with a lot of the kids for really stepping up.”
