The red, white and blue will be on full display this weekend as Aurora gathers once again for one of its most cherished traditions. Appropriately, the theme for A’ROR’N Days 2026 is “Celebrating America 250,” a tribute to our nation’s upcoming 250th birthday and a reminder of the values that continue to unite communities large and small.
If there is a perfect place to celebrate America, it might just be a small town like Aurora.
Across the country, preparations are underway for the semiquincentennial — the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. While that milestone is a little over a week away, this weekend offers an opportunity to reflect on what makes our nation special and why communities like ours remain the backbone of the American story.
For those returning home for class reunions, family gatherings or simply a weekend visit, welcome back. There is something special about seeing familiar faces, walking familiar streets and reconnecting with the people and places that helped shape who we are. A’ROR’N Days has always been about more than entertainment. It is a celebration of home.
This year’s patriotic theme seems especially fitting. The ideals that inspired America’s founding — freedom, opportunity, service and self-governance — are the same principles that continue to define communities like Aurora. They are reflected in the volunteers who organize events, the businesses that support local activities, the churches that strengthen our neighborhoods and the countless residents who invest their time and talents to make this community better.
As always, there will be plenty of fun along the way. The community celebration offers opportunities for old friends to reconnect, children to make memories and families to enjoy a weekend packed with activities. The parade will no doubt showcase plenty of American pride, with creative floats, patriotic displays and a sea of stars and stripes winding through downtown Aurora.
As visitors return home this weekend, we also encourage them to take a look around. Aurora continues to grow and evolve, with new housing developments, business investments and community improvements helping position our city for the future. While much has changed through the years, the values that make Aurora a great place to live, work and raise a family remain firmly intact.
None of this would be possible without the countless volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making A’ROR’N Days happen. Their efforts often go unnoticed, but they represent the very best of both community spirit and the American tradition of service. We extend our sincere thanks to each of them.
As we celebrate A’ROR’N Days and look ahead to America’s 250th birthday, let us remember that our nation’s strength has always begun in communities where neighbors know one another, where people work together for a common purpose and where pride in country starts with pride in hometown.
Welcome home, alumni. Enjoy the festivities, reconnect with friends and family, and take time to appreciate all that makes Aurora special.
